વિધાતાએ દીકરી ઘડીને ત્યારે ખૂબ ખાંતે
કસબી હાથેથી એણે કરી શી કમાલ !
રૂપનો અંબાર કરું, મીઠપ અપાર ભરું
ખજાનો ખુટાડી કરું ખલકને ન્યાલ.
દેવીયું કનેથી માગી લીધો મલકાટ
અને મધરાત કેરા માપી સીમાડા સુદૂર,
ચપટીક રજ લીધી નખેતર તણી
અને દીકરીને આંખે ભર્યાં દમકતાં નૂર.
સાકરનો લઈને સવાદ એણે દીકરીમાં
તજ ને લવિંગ વળી ભેળવ્યાં જરીક
સૂરજનાં ધોળાંફૂલ હાસ ને હુલાસા દીધાં
જોઈ કારવીને કીધું, હવે કાં’ક ઠીક.
વિધાતાએ દીકરી ઘડી ને વળી જોઈ
વારે વારે હસું હસું થાય હૈયે એને હાશ,
હર માવતર કાજે હર્યુંભર્યું હોત,
નર્યું નીતર્યું જોઈ એનું મુખ, ધર્યું આ સુખ.
ઉપરોક્ત કવિતા અંગ્રેજીની ખૂબ પ્રચલિત રચના છે અને શ્રી મકરન્દ દવે દ્વારા કરાયેલો તેનો અનુવાદ પણ એટલો જ મનોહર અને સુંદર છે. દીકરીઓ વિશેની અનુવાદિત કૃતિઓમાં આ રચનાનું સ્થાન અદ્વિતીય છે અને અનુવાદની સૌથી સરસ વાત એ છે કે પ્રસ્તુત કવિતા આપણી ગુજરાતી ભાષામાં જ રચાઈ હોય એટલી જ અસરકારક અને પોતીકી લાગે છે.
can you please share the details of a original english version of the above mention peom , though the translation is also very heart touching and their is no doubt about it, but just for the update of knowledge i would like to know the author and a poem of original english version,

When God created daughters,
He took very special care
To find the precious treasures
that would make them sweet and fair
He gave them smiles of angels,
then explored the midnight skies
And took a bit of stardust
to make bright and twinkling eyes
He fashioned them from sugar
and a little bit of spice,
He gave them sunny laughter,
and everything that is nice.
He smiled when he made daughters,
because he knew he had
Created love and happiness
for every mom and dad!
